Welcome to Breakfast Cookie!
As a writer, I find it ironic that I’m struggling to find words to express how excited I am to be writing this post to you right now! It’s been a crazy year for me and I’m so happy to welcome you to my new English learning blog Breakfast Cookie! Let me tell you how it all started…
Earlier this year I was sitting at home alone one particularly ordinary Saturday evening watching a movie. The movie was about a writer who had come far in his career, made a name for himself, but he felt like something was missing. It was then that he discovered teaching, and by the end of the film, I was in tears. Now let me tell you, I am NOT a person to cry often at movies, so I realised that my tears were those of recognition. Suddenly I knew, after so many years flipping from one job to another, that the one thing I had enjoyed throughout all those times was teaching others and discussing linguistics.
I wanted to be an English teacher!
That’s why I’ve started this blog – to combine my love of writing with my other love of helping and teaching others to not only learn the English language, but to understand and appreciate it.
Why Breakfast Cookies?
I don’t know about you, but I find that my days start incredibly well if they begin with a snippet of learning. It doesn’t have to be much. A little fact, a news story, an article to read. For me, the Google app Allo sends me a random trivia tidbit each morning, and I immediately login to my language exchange app HelloTalk to check what messages I received overnight. I always learn a new grammar rule or piece of vocabulary and I take that word with me throughout the day.
I’d like you to think of these posts as little “Breakfast snacks”. Check for new posts during your morning coffee once a week and you’ll find new expressions, idioms, grammar rule explanations and all the things that you need to take your English beyond what you can learn in a classroom or textbook.
Cookie Monsters: Our learning community
My vision for this site is for it to be a learning community for all English speakers. I’d love to hear what issues you want me to write about. I want people to comment on concepts in my posts that they want further explanation on or that they found useful and applicable to their daily lives. Most of all, it would be amazing to see users commenting and helping each other out. This won’t work without your input!
Don’t miss out on any updates: please follow me on my new Twitter account @BrekkyCookie and subscribe to my email updates.
Lastly, help me start growing my community of Cookie Monsters by sharing the blog link with other English learners that you know:
